Retail market in Poland Q1 2022

According to data from the Central Statistical Office, retail sales in constant prices for Q1 2022 grew by 9% in relation to the corresponding period of 2021. Despite the dynamic growth of e-commerce, forecasts for sales in a traditional formula are optimistic. Among retail chains, trends of testing new sales formats and a focus on sustainable growth and the environment are being observed. Both in shopping centres as well as on high streets brands which promote an idea of circular fashion are entering the market. The total stock of traditional retail space amounts to approx. 12.2 million sq m of GLA, currently. In Q1 2022, approx. 40,400 sq m of GLA of new retail space was delivered to the market. At the end of Q1 2022 over 250,000 sq m of GLA of new retail space was under construction, out of which completion of around 230,000 sq m of GLA is scheduled for the current year. The majority of newly developed schemes are retail parks which have been constructed predominantly in small cities.
